The Human Voice in Social Media

Let's face it, the voice is our secret weapon in life. We use it everyday. Children use it to communicate the rules of a game; teenagers use it to plan their next mall visit; and when you become an adult, well, let's just say we all look for a break from talking when we can. But how does the human voice work in media anymore? It has been the way people, cultures and news have spread across the globe, and the way we receive information and communicate with one another -- that is, before the internet came along! You still hear it on TV and radio commercials, and dialogue is essential to drive any visual medium like film, but the landscape for the Internet and the "social media" world has become, in many cases, voiceless. It is a complex cyber stream of texting, e-mails and application-based communication like Facebook and Twitter. So why have people stopped "talking" to one another? Or is it that communication has become more evolved and the telephone just doesn't seem that useful anymore? Or is it that it's not fast enough? I feel that if you are an artist, musician, filmmaker, or someone in the "media" world, you really have no choice but to try and embrace this "new way" and join the cyber stream of people interconnecting and "talking" online and through mobile devices. While we may have gotten away from the "human voice" in some ways, we still have a voice, and let's hope we never loose the need to talk to one another and that no website or mobile device will ever completely replace the human-to-human interaction that we all started with in the first place. - Kevin
